Wheels on the Bus

Wheels on the Bus

Hi!
Thanks for popping in!  I would like to take a moment to share about our week in community!  This week we read Seals on the Bus by Lenny Hort.  It was a fun and silly spin on Wheels on the Bus.  The kids loved it!
If you've been following my blog posts; you know that this year I am itinerant.  I plan for 1 hour which is how much time I get with each student in the community.  Here is the picture schedule that I use to help with time management and keep things on track:
After reading Seals on the Bus, we continued the bus theme with this school bus color matching file folder game:
We followed that up with this cute and simple school bus craft.  You can download it for FREE in my TpT store.  Just click on the photo:

Continuing with the bus theme; we learned about the letter B.  I chose 2 different activities to meet the different needs of my students.  We worked on the letter and initial sound with this phonics matching activity:

We also read "My Little Book About B," which features the sight words:  "see" & "the."  You can download the letter A version of this book for FREE in my "A- Letter of the Week Packet."

For our counting activity we did this "Kids on the Bus" number to quantity matching activity:

There's no way for me to do all that I would like in 1 hour; but for you I've included additional activities that you can use in the classroom with this lesson.  I hope you enjoyed my post!  You can access the resources shown by clicking on the photos.  Download the FREE LESSON PLAN here.  Finally, I've also included affiliate links for Seals on the Bus and toy buses for your convenience.   Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post!  And thanks for stopping by!

Mardi Gras!

Mardi Gras!

What a busy week here in New Orleans!  We are trying to squeeze Valentine's Day, Mardi Gras, and 100 Days of school all into this 1 week!  Today we did Mardi Gras!  Such fun!  I did the, "It's Mardi Gras!" reader on the smart board for the kids.  Then we moved to the tables.  Since we're on the letter K, we did a K is for King Cake color and trace page:
Next I pulled one little person at a time to paint the paper bag king cakes I had prepared.  You may be able to do more at once but with my "crewe," one at a time was all I was brave enough to tackle! ;0)
The students who were waiting colored the book.
I felt like I was running a bakery!  Here are 3 little king cakes "cooling." ;0)
We write each kid's name on the plate; fill the center with beads and send the whole thing home in a gallon zipper bag on Friday!  Fun, fun, fun!  A Mardi Gras gift for their families!
I'll post a pic when the paint dries!

You can get these activities and MUCH MORE from my, "It's Mardi Gras Time!" Emergent Reader & Centers download.  Click on the cover below to find out what else is in this unit:
