Mother's Day Lesson Plan {Distance Learning}

Mother's Day Lesson Plan {Distance Learning}

Hi!,
      I hope that this post finds you well and in good spirits!  And I hope that you had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend!  I thought I'd share what we did in our Zoom Circle Time as well as what I posted in my Google Classroom last week.

      Of course as always; I followed my picture schedule:
      For the story we read I Love You Stinky Face by Lisa Mccourt.
      For Morning Message I modeled writing uppercase and lowercase Mm.  M was our letter of the week and of course it was for Mother! =0)
      After modeling how to write the letter of the week and discussing it's phonetic sound; students take turns  answering the  question, "Does this begin with the letter Mm?"  I have items that both begin and DO NOT begin with the letter M.
      Next was the number of the week.  This week's number was 13.  We counted out 13 markers because marker begins with M!
      For number 2 I shared my screen with the class; taking them over to Boom Learning.  I made some Farm Animal Mothers and Babies Boom Cards.  The objective was to get the students to choose the correct mama for each baby.  I am unable to share the Boom Cards because of the artist's terms of use but I did make an equivalent File Folder Game which will be FREE in my store this week only.  You can click on the photo to download it from my TpT store:
      And as always (since the stay at home order); number 1 is the HOUSE and its where I remind families to check the Google Classroom for follow up activities.  In addition to the number and letter of the week packets; I post a themed 'At Home Learning Packet' that reinforces the skills we've worked on.  This week was a Mother's Day theme:
      Here's the Lesson Plan:

      Well, that's all for now.  Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post and thanks for stopping by!

God Bless,

Asia

Spring Lesson Plan {Distance Learning}

Spring Lesson Plan {Distance Learning}

Hi!
      I hope that you had a great weekend!  We are still doing Distance Learning in our district due to the governor's COVID-19 Stay-at-Home mandate.  The kids are really adjusting well!  Here is what we did last week:

      As always; I am using my Visual Picture Schedule - even during Zoom sessions:

      This week we read I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Frog by Lucille Collandro:
      Ss was our Letter of the Week; S for Spring!  For Morning Message I modeled how to write the letter S using my clip board and a marker:

      That carries us right into number 4 of our count down of tasks which is "Does This Begin with the Letter Ss?" or as I wrote it on my container: "Is it Ss?"  During this segment of our Zoom; I pull objects out of my container 1 at a time to show to my students.  We've already discussed S and the sound it makes so now we simply look at each object and use our listening ears to determine if we hear an Ss sound at the beginning of the word.  The kids have fun doing this part.
      Next we practice a math skill (Number 3 on the schedule ).  This week its 'More or Less?'  I used heavy duty tape to adhere frog counters to craft sticks (since the old lady swallowed a frog).  I used different colors and different quantities on each stick.  I held 2 sticks up at a time and posed the question, "Which has more?"  The students were able to answer, "The blue!" or "The yellow!"
      Number 2 on the schedule was our Number of the Week:12.  I modeled writing the number 12 on my clip board.  And since I had already used the frog counters for 'More or Less,' I decided to make a Google Slides Presentation of Frogs on Logs for the students to count.  For this activity I  shared my screen with the students.  This was a 1st and they really seemed to enjoy it.  I've included a link to a FREE copy of the presentation in the resources page of the lesson plan.

      Number 1 is always the House.  I tell my students to go with their parents to the Google Classroom after our session and complete some of the follow-up activities that I've posted.  They can review the skills we went over plus skills that we've been practicing throughout the year in the At-Home Learning Packet.  I try to post enough to keep my students busy for a week if the parents want to work with them.
      Well, that's all I have for today!  I hope you found something to be useful!  Here's the Lesson Plan:

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and thanks for stopping by!

God Bless,

Asia

Earth Day Lesson Plan {Distance Learning}

Earth Day Lesson Plan {Distance Learning}

Hi!,
      I hope that this post finds you well and in good spirits.  I also hope that you and your students are adjusting well to Distance Learning.  Here's what we've been using:  Zoom & Google Classroom.

      I am still using the picture schedule that I use when seeing my students in the community.  It does 2 things: 1.  They are already familiar with it so they cooperate with the routine.  2.  It guides the Zoom session and helps keep me on track!  Our sessions last about 30 minutes.

         Beginning with the 2nd row; our story was I Love the Earth by Todd Parr.
    For Morning Message; I modeled how to write uppercase and lowercase Pp using my clipboard and a marker.  Pp was our letter of the week because we just did Ee for Easter Egg a couple of weeks ago.  We said that Planet was another name for what the Earth is.

      That leads us into Number 4.  I went through my container of objects asking the questions: "What is this?" and "Does it begin with Pp?"  This portion is working out well and I think that I will be using it weekly.

      Number 3 was a math activity.  We practiced AB and ABC patterns.  The big question here was: What Comes Next?  The students are doing a great job of participating by calling out their answers.  Note:  I don't mute the mics.
      Number 2 was also a math activity.  Our Number of the Week was 11.  I didn't have Earth erasers so we counted something that began with the letter P; Polly Pocket!  I used heavy duty tape to hold the tray up to the screen as we counted the dolls together:
      Finally we come to the house.  Here is where I remind families to go to the Google Classroom once the Zoom Circle Time is over and do activities with their child at home.  I've placed more than enough work in the Google Classroom to keep the students engaged all week!  The At Home Learning Packet is tailored to our theme and includes some of the specific skills that we covered in the Zoom plus a few extra!

      Here's the FREE Lesson Plan:
      Thanks for taking the time to read my post; and thanks for stopping by!

      God bless,

      Asia

Distance Learning: April Showers

Distance Learning: April Showers

Hi!
      I hope this post finds you and your family well.  I thought that I would take a moment to share what we've been doing during the Stay-at-Home orders.  As you know, we are all getting settled into Distance Learning.  I have been holding my Circle Times over Zoom and posting follow-up activities to Google Classroom.  Here's what we did this week:

      Our stories for this week are Little Cloud by Eric Carle and It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles G. Shaw.  I am still following my picture schedule.  It may have changed a little since I last blogged.

     Morning Message used to be practicing writing the student's name because I worked with them in community 1-on-1.  Now I try to see my entire caseload in 1 Zoom session per week.  It would take forever to write everyone's name; so instead I feature a letter and model writing it and saying it's sound.  Students are asked to use their pointer finger to write the letter in the air and repeat the sound with me.  Then they are asked to say what words they know that begin with that sound.

      Each number on my schedule represents an activity that we do together.  Number 4 is a follow up to the letter which was modeled.  I just hold up objects from a bin that both begin and do not begin with the letter R.  I call on students, "What is this?"  "Does this begin with the letter R?"  "Can you hear the R sound when you say that word?"

      Number 3 is a little activity that I hooked up to follow up on the story.  I made a simple printable of shapes and cut them out on white paper like clouds.  I use a blue laminated file folder as my backdrop and arrange the shapes in random order.  I move them around to make a car, a house, and candy!  I call on students to guess what I made.  In the Google Classroom I've included  a copy of the shapes for my students.  Parents are encouraged to print them and cut them out at home so their child can make things with shapes like Little Cloud from the story.  My classroom is private; but I've included a FREE copy of the shape printable here.

      Last but certainly not least, no lesson would be complete without a little counting.  Once again I pull out my Rain Drop 10 Frames.  I love using blue floral glass beads for raindrops!  Because I did this activity over Zoom I used a clip board to hold it up to the camera and packaging tape to hold the beads in place as we counted.

      The house on my schedule represents an activity that the students do at home when the Zoom Circle Time is done.  For this I upload a variety of different leveled materials to the Google Classroom for parents to access and use at home.   I include link to a YouTube video of 'It Looked Like Spilt Milk' by Charles G. Shaw (read by another teacher); my April Showers At Home Learning Packet; a few pages from my Letter of the Week R packet; and the shape page that I mentioned earlier.

      I record each session with parent's permission and make it available in the Google Classroom (which is private).  This allows the students who missed it to see it; it allows the students who participated to see themselves in the video; and it allows me to review and collect data for their portfolios.

      Well that's it!  I hope that you enjoyed this blog post and found it to be useful!

      Thanks for taking the time to read my post and thanks for stopping by!
