Back-to-School File Folder Games

Hi All!,

I hope that you had a restful summer!  Back to school is in full swing for me!  We've had our workshops and the kids have been in school for about 2 weeks now.  We've been working on establishing rapport, building our classroom community and Routines, Routines, Routines!  Now that those are underway it's time for some work!

If you didn't know, I am a preschool early interventionist.  I work with children between the ages of 3-5 who have special needs.  The range of skill levels and abilities is broad.

In our TEACCH center, some of our students work on what we call "put-in" tasks where they sit at a work space and put objects in containers.  They start with with 1 and gradually work up to completing 3 or more tasks in one sitting.  The purpose is to help them to develop the concept of "work" and build their stamina for completing a given task and eventually multiple tasks.

Other students in our group are ready for more challenging and academic work.  For these, we are using file folder games!  I am really excited to begin adding to my file folder games collection.  I started it last year during the 2nd semester because that is when the students were ready.  This year we have returning students who are ready now!  For them, I have created some Back-to-School themed file folder games to practice basic skills.

I plan to work on these basic skills through out the year as different students will be ready at different times.  I will be adding skills as needed.  So far, here is what we will be working on:

  • Color Matching
  • Shape Matching
  • Emotions Matching
  • UPPERCASE to lowercase Letter Matching
  • Letter to Initial Sound Matching
  • Number to Quantity Matching

These make great assessment tools, and are also are good for independent practice depending on the skill level of the student.  I have uploaded these games in my TpT store if you are interested.  Below are clickable photo links:

Be sure to check back throughout the school year for more file folder games with these skills in different themes!

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my blog post and my products!
